The God Slide

The God Slide from Strike the Root.  Good stuff.

“However, I would contend that the believer is psychologically harming himself. Believing in things that don’t exist in reality is by definition delusional, and there are consequences to this self-damaging behavior that can manifest themselves in society, and some of these consequences can prove hazardous to many people.”

The same can be said of drug abuse.  As long as new coverts/addicts are recruited without coercion, I suppose it’s a case of “buyer beware”.

I wouldn’t ban religion if I had the authority, but I would ridicule it and tell people the truth about it.

People have the right to do or believe any stupid thing they want as long as they don’t hurt anyone else.  And, they have the right to raise their kids as they see fit.  This one hurts a little, but kids can’t raise themselves.

When the kids realize they have been force-fed a load of crap (which the delusional parents may not have known was crap, since they were force-fed the same crap as children) they can confront their parents about it and resolve to not force-feed that crap to their own kids.

It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s the best one I can see.
